Description

Monks Thacky is a house that was formerly a row of cottages, located on Burton Lane in Princes Risborough. The three taller bays on the left side date back to the 17th century and were altered in the late 18th to early 19th century. To the right is an early 19th-century lower range. The 17th-century section is timber-framed, with the upper walls of the front left bays and gable featuring rendered timbers and thin brick infill from the 17th century. The lower walls and the right bay have been rebuilt in flint with brick dressings. The left bay includes an inset clunch panel that is carved with tracery. The building has a tiled roof and a rebuilt brick chimney situated between the right bays. It is one storey and has an attic, with three bays in total. The ground floor features 20th-century leaded casements, including four 2-light and one 3-light window. The upper storey has two old paired leaded casements located in gabled eaves-line dormers. There is a 20th-century door to the left of the right bay that has a segmental head, and a lean-to structure is present at the rear. The early 19th-century range is constructed of flint with brick dressings, topped with a thatch roof and has brick chimneys between the left bays and to the right. This section is also one storey and comprises three bays, featuring five paired leaded casements, with two 20th-century windows in blocked doorways and another blocked door in the right bay. Inside, the building reveals a timber frame with curved braces, wind-braces, and a re-used central spine beam.
