Description

Anne’s Corner comprises three houses and a shop, believed to have originally been a dairy. These buildings date to around 1900 and underwent restoration following damage during the Second World War. The architectural style is Vernacular Revival. The ground floor is primarily constructed of chequerwork flint and cemented brick, with some red brick repairs, while the first floor features an eclectic timber framing. The roof is tiled, punctuated by five clustered stacks of flint and cemented brick set diagonally. The building is recessed in the centre, with ends that flare outwards.

It is two stories high, with six windows. The first floor is jettied, and the central house exhibits a striking pattern of close-studding featuring arches above, complemented by curved windbraces. The end houses instead display square panels and curved windbraces. The windows are fitted with diamond-paned leaded glass; the first-floor windows are 3-light casements and the ground-floor windows are mullioned and transomed, with 3 or 5 lights each. The entrances are via plank doors. The gable ends of numbers 1 and 3 were formerly exposed frame, but are now tile-hung, positioned above the close-studding and curved braces of the first floor. Two gabled oriel windows are supported by wooden brackets. Number 1 features a projecting 5-light bay window, while number 3 includes a projecting bay window that was rebuilt after bomb damage. Inside, exposed beams are visible. The buildings are documented in a postcard from 1905.
