Description
The Northall Inn is a public house and restaurant that dates back to the 16th century, with extensions added in the 19th century. The original 16th-century section is timber-framed, featuring whitewashed brick infill at the front, and has an old tile roof with a central chimney that has grouped shafts made of red and vitreous brick. The building stands two stories high, with the upper floor jettied at the front on beam ends. It has two bays with 20th-century two and three-light casement windows, and the ground floor windows are adorned with 20th-century wooden boards that have carved scroll ornamentation above them. There is a central lobby entry with a boarded door, and another boarded door to the right.
To the left, the 19th-century extension is constructed of whitewashed brick, rendered at the street level, and also features an old tile roof with a central brick chimney. This extension is two stories tall and consists of one bay, with a boarded door at the front and 20th-century leaded casements in the gable. There are additional extensions at the rear of the building.
Inside, the structure displays large curved tension braces and wind-braces. The left bay contains a chamfered spine beam and plain heavy joists, while the right bay features a moulded spine beam and stop-chamfered joists. There is a fireplace in the upper left room with chamfered stone jambs.
