Description

Winterton House is a home for the elderly that was formerly a vicarage, built between 1871 and 1873 by George Devey. The building is constructed of red brick featuring blue brick diaper patterns and has an irregular plinth made of sarsen stone. It has a tiled roof and a picturesque design with multiple gables and moulded brick eaves. The house is two storeys tall with an attic and has a band on the first floor.

The entrance is located on the north front, featuring a lean-to porch in a recess. To the left of the porch, there is a two-light casement window, with a three-light window above it. The gable on the right side has a large projecting chimney stack with offsets and two diagonal shafts. The left gable features a canted oriel window on the first floor, with two-light casements on the ground floor and in the attic. There is a lower service wing to the left that has been altered.

On the garden elevation to the west, there is a narrow gable on the left with a dentil verge and a small panel in the tympanum. The first floor has a four-light window with a moulded head, while the ground floor features a four-light transomed window. There is a large chimney stack in the center, which has been reduced to eaves level, and a square bay on the right with a French window.
