Description

Callow Down Farmhouse is a house dating from the 17th century, with alterations made subsequently. The upper storey is timber-framed with thin brick infill, while the ground floor was rebuilt in the 19th century using flint and brick. The roof is thatched, with a 20th-century brick chimney at the north end. The house is two storeys high with two bays. It has irregular 20th-century wooden casements, with a sash window to the first floor left of the east side and a two-light window with old mullions to the first floor right. The west side has 20th-century French doors on the left. A range of 20th-century extensions at the south end creates a T-shaped layout; the west projection is half-timbered with a half-hipped thatched roof, while the east projection is single-storey with a flat roof. A 20th-century porch is located in the west angle. The interior of the original south bay features stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops.
