Description
Barkers is a building that dates from the early 17th century or earlier and has been altered over time. It features a timber frame with parts that are cased in 18th-century brick and has an old tiled roof. The structure is two storeys high, with a gabled wing on the right that has a jettied upper floor, exposing the ends of the joists and the framing below, with tile hanging above. To the left, there is an 18th-century door with six fielded panels, an old frame, and a leaded fanlight, along with a modern open porch.
On the left side, there is a three-light leaded casement window with a segmental arch, and above it, on the first floor, there are two more three-light leaded casements with brick gables above. The left-hand gable and parts of the rear elevation show exposed framing, which is covered with oak boards. The building has a large lateral chimney, a modern wing, and a second chimney located in the gable end of the cross wing.
Inside, the building retains exposed framing, including chamfered ceiling beams, jowled posts, and curved wind braces. There is also an inserted staircase featuring 17th-century turned balusters.
