Description

No. 8 The Broadway is a late 19th-century reading room constructed of red brick, topped with a slate roof featuring a half-hipped gable front and a modillion brick cornice along the edges. The building stands two storeys tall. On the first floor, there is a central four-light casement window set beneath a low pointed brick arch, with Gothic trefoil designs in the window glazing. The central pair of windows also serves as doors that open onto a balcony that spans the entire width of the building. The ground floor includes an entrance porch on the left beneath part of the balcony, and a large bay window on the right beneath the remaining section of the balcony. The building is listed for its group value.
