Description
The Park Hill Statue, located east of Hartwell House, is a Grade II listed structure. This column with a statue on top was originally situated northwest of Hartwell House as part of the early 18th-century garden, as depicted in the Nebot paintings at the County Museum. It was created in 1735 by Thomas Watts and initially featured a statue of William III by Sir Henry Cheere. In 1757, it was relocated to its current position on Park Hill, where the original statue was replaced with one of George II. The statue is set atop a large Doric column made of stone, which stands on a square plinth with a base of two steps. The plinth is inscribed with "George II Born 1683 Died 1760. Erected 1757". The column supports a section of entablature that includes a single triglyph and a square modillion cornice, which serves as the base for the statue.
