FAWLEY FAWLEY COURT SU 78 SE 8/20 River Gate in Fawley Court Grounds 21.6.55 GV II

Small covered bridge with gateway, forming garden feature. Mid C18, by John Freeman of Fawley Court. Flint and stucco with some stone dressings. In Mannerist style. W. front has central rectangular entry with pediment, flanking screen walls of flint with band course below stone-coped parapet, and 4 Tuscan stone pilasters with rusticated bands of flint. Side walls have central windows with rusticated flint surrounds. Rear has arched entry, flanking flint pilasters with moulded stone caps and pediment. Bridge is on path leading to bank of Thames, and crosses small stream.
