Description
White Cottage is a house that includes a small octagonal pavilion, which was once used as an estate office, and incorporates a former schoolroom. The pavilion dates from the late 18th century and features roughcast and whitewashed walls, moulded wooden eaves, a slate roof, and a brick chimney. It is a single-storey structure. The south side has a six-panelled door set in an architrave frame, which is now hidden by a 20th-century whitewashed brick porch with a flat roof. On either side of the door are three-pane sash windows. Inside, there is a notable interior with shaped plaster panelling, foliage festoons, and a moulded ceiling cornice. Attached to the north of the pavilion is a small single-storey link wing from the 19th century and an early 19th-century school, both made of whitewashed brick with slate roofs. The school features four bays of arched wooden casements in recessed panels and two shallow arched recesses with a roundel between them in the gable end. The school and link wing are included in the listing only because they are attached to the pavilion.
