Description
40 Great Hampden is a house dating from the early 17th century that has been altered over time. It features a timber frame with old brick infill, and the right bay includes one ogee brace at the front. The building has a brick and flint plinth, while the left end has been rebuilt in brick. The roof is hipped and thatched, with a central brick chimney. The house is two storeys high and has two bays.
On the ground floor, there are 20th-century paired leaded casements, and above, 19th-century similar casements with thatch swept around. The central entrance has an old boarded door with a minimal board hood. To the right, there is a weatherboarded bay that was formerly an outbuilding and underwent significant alterations around 1984; it now features a canted bay window and a two-light leaded dormer window. Additionally, there is another 20th-century canted bay window on the left end and a semi-circular 20th-century brick projection at the centre rear.
