Description

The Church of St Mary is a parish church located in Weston Turville, primarily built in the 13th and 14th centuries, with a 15th-century tower and roofs. It was restored in 1860 by D. Brandon. The church features an embattled west tower with an octagonal stair turret, an aisled nave with a clerestory, a north porch, and a chancel with a north vestry. The structure is made of rubble flint, with some church and limestone dressings, and includes a timber-framed porch with brick infill and a rendered east wall. The roofs are tiled, with lead covering the aisles.

The church has 14th-century tracery on the aisle and chancel windows, while the east window is from the 19th century. The nave consists of three bays, with the eastern bays of the south arcade dating to the 13th century and the western bay and north arcade from the 14th century. The chancel arch and piscina are from the 13th century. The clerestory and nave roof, added in the 15th century, feature tiebeams on arched braces with traceried spandrels.

Inside, there is a Norman font from the Aylesbury group, which is chalice-shaped with a carved base and fluted bowl, adorned with leaf scroll carving around the top. The church also contains a 17th-century pulpit, remnants of a 14th-century screen in the south aisle, and remains of Norman sculpture in the south wall of the chancel. A fragment of 15th-century stained glass is found in the east window, and an oak panel inscribed with the year 1578 is fixed to the south aisle wall.
