Description

A house, originally dating from the 17th century, later divided into two separate dwellings in the early to mid-19th century. It is located on the south side of Linton Main Street, slightly off the main road. The building is constructed from coursed grey limestone rubble and has a roof of graduated stone slates. It is two storeys high and has three bays, with five windows on the first floor. The corners are accentuated by quoins. A blocked 17th-century doorway is located to the left of the second bay; it has a moulded chamfer to the quoined jambs, and is now filled with a 20th-century window. Inserted doorways in plain surrounds are present in the first and third bays. The window in the ground floor of the first bay is original, featuring four lights with one mullion removed and a hoodmould. The first-floor window above has three lights. The remaining windows, two in the ground floor and four on the first floor, are square-shaped and set within plain surrounds of sawn or hammered stone. The interior was not fully inspected during a recent survey, but a large open fireplace is found in the second bay, featuring a two-stone, slightly triangular-headed lintel. A blocked doorway, originally leading to the first bay (now a separate dwelling), is visible to the left of the fireplace. A recessed bay on the far left is not of particular architectural interest.
