Description

Park House is a house dating from the 17th century, with later extensions added in the late 18th century. It is constructed of limestone rubble and features a graduated stone slate roof. The building is two stories high and has two bays, with a slightly recessed added bay on the left and a stable bay on the right. The original two-bay section has a half-glazed door in a chamfered surround, flanked by recessed chamfered mullioned windows, originally four lights but now reduced to two, with hoodmoulds. There are similar windows with two and three lights on the first floor, and a blocked circular window on the far right. Above the door is an inserted date stone that reads "1685". The end stacks have been rebuilt.

Inside, the door opens into a narrow hall with the original wall on the left and an inserted partition on the right. The room on the right features a large blocked fireplace with a chamfered cambered arch on the right gable, and two spine beams that extend over the partition wall into the hall. At the far end of the hall, there is a stone half-round stair built into a rear outshut. The blocked circular window is believed to have illuminated a bacon cupboard. In the added bay to the left, there is a board door on the right, a small square four-pane sash window on the left, and a 16-pane sash window on the first floor. The stable bay on the right has a board door on the left with a small square loading door above it. The date stone was removed around 1960 from Bleak Bank, a ruined farmhouse to the north of Park House, which was formerly the home of the Proctors. Additionally, a second date stone inscribed "T 1660 P" is built into the doorway of a wash house attached to the left bay.
