Description

This cottage, attached to the east end of Hall Farmhouse, dates back to 1684. It is constructed of rubble with a stone slate roof and has three storeys, along with a two-storey rear outshut. The front features three first-floor windows and quoins on the right side.

On the ground floor, from left to right, there is a board door set in an ashlar surround with interrupted jambs and rounded inner corners on the lintel and hoodmould. Next is a two-light double-chamfered mullion window with a hoodmould, followed by a blocked doorway that has a chamfered quoined ashlar surround. This doorway features a scalloped recessed panel on the lintel with the raised characters "IR 1684" and an ovolo dripmould.

The first floor has two three-light double-chamfered mullion windows and a chamfered fire window with a stanchion. On the second floor, there are two two-light double-chamfered mullion windows. The right side has a shaped kneeler and moulded ashlar coping, as well as a corniced ashlar stack.

At the rear of the outshut, the ground floor includes a two-light double-chamfered mullion window and a single-light window with a flush surround and dripmould. The first floor has a six-pane sash window in a flush surround. The right return of the cottage features two blocked single-light windows in the gable.

Inside, the main room on the ground floor has an ashlar fireplace with rounded inner corners on the lintel and a stop-chamfered beam. The cottage was unoccupied at the time of the last survey.
