Description

Grove House is a building that consists of two houses, one of which was formerly a shop and public house, now combined into a single residence. It dates from the early 18th century and is marked with the date 1811. The exterior is rendered, with roofs made of artificial stone slate and stone slate. The building has two storeys and features three first-floor windows on the right side and one on the left.

The house on the right, dated 1811, has a stone slate roof. On the ground floor, to the left, there is a boarded door set in a chamfered ashlar surround, with the raised characters "J & R W 1811" on the lintel. To the right is a part-glazed four-panel door, and in the center, there is a four-pane sash window with an ashlar sill and a sill-like lintel. A similar window is found on the first floor. This house has end stacks, with the left one made of brick.

The house on the left has a blocked door on the ground floor to the left, and on each floor, there are two three-light flat-faced mullion windows, with a single-light window to the right on the first floor. There is a corniced stack at the left end. The building dated 1811 was previously a boot shop and before that, it was known as The Loyal Dales Volunteers public house. It is included for its group value.
