Description
The sundial, located approximately 5 metres south of the chancel of the church of St. Michael, is likely from the 17th century, with the gnomon dated 1910. It was restored in the 20th century. Made of gritstone, the sundial stands about 1.2 metres high and features a circular base on a plinth. The octagonal shaft consists of three blocks, with the upper block splayed and having a projecting band. The top slab is marked with incised Roman numerals and lines. The gnomon is inscribed with "HUBBERHOLME CHURCH MCMX." A plaque attached to the base of the shaft indicates that the dial was restored by the Langstroths of the USA.
