Description
Flasby Hall Tower is a round tower built into the side of a river valley. It likely originated as a dovecote in the mid-17th century and was altered in the mid-18th century to serve as a summer house, with further changes made in the 19th century, resulting in its current partially ruined state. The tower is constructed of squared coursed rubble with millstone grit dressings and measures approximately 7 metres in diameter and 3 storeys high.
The west entrance, dating from the 17th century, is located at first floor level and features a basket arch lintel with a chamfered surround, along with a plank door that has 19th-century strap hinges. Above the entrance is a gargoyle shaped like a dog's head. There are two chamfered stair lights, one with a segmental arch and the other with a flat arch, both of which are now blocked. The tower contains three rows of pigeon holes and a blocked 17th-century entrance on the first floor to the east.
On the second floor, there is a narrow chamfered window and a segmental arched chamfered window. The south side of the tower, which faces the river, features a mid-18th century ground floor entrance with an eared architrave and a pulvinated frieze, leading to a plank door. There is also a right-hand chamfered round-headed window with incised spandrels and a large first floor window with a chamfered surround and a keyed round head, likely dating from the mid-19th century.
