Description
This is a lime kiln located on the field boundary to the south of the road, approximately 100 meters southwest of High Croft. It was likely built in the 1840s by a professional mason. The kiln is constructed from large sandstone rubble arranged in courses and has a square plan, built into the slope. It stands about 3.8 meters high and features battered front and sides, with two slightly stepped back tiers above the draw hole. The rectangular draw hole opening measures 1.25 meters high. The coping is missing, and the bowl on top is partly filled in. This kiln is a good example of its type and is very similar to another lime kiln located approximately 100 meters southeast of High Chapel.
