Description

The farmhouse at Whygill Head, also known as High Whygill, dates from 1774 and features later additions. It is constructed of coursed rubble and pebble-dash with a graduated slate roof and brick end chimneys, one of which is corbelled out. The building has a symmetrical two-storey, three-bay front. The central porch has a segmental canopy supported by pilasters, leading to a vertically-split panelled door. There is a single three-light stone mullioned window on either side of the porch. On the first floor, there are two two-light windows flanking a reset, dated rainwater head.

At the north end, there is a rear wing that includes a sink set into the wall next to a plank door, allowing for internal and external use. To the left of the plank door, there is a 20th-century casement window, while the first floor has a single two-light window and two sash windows. The wing ends in a small byre and hay loft made of coursed, squared rubble with quoins, topped with a graduated slate roof. The end wall features two 20th-century double doors with loft access above. Above the dovecote openings in the gable, there is a date panel inscribed with the year 1879.
