Description

Town End and Town End Cottages are two former cottages that date back to 1712, with a likely 19th-century left-hand bay and an early 20th-century extension to the right of Town End Cottage. The exterior features pebble dash with stone dressings and a stone slate roof. The buildings are two storeys high and were originally four bays.

The former central entrance has a chamfered surround and a lintel inscribed with the initials A/W/H, now featuring a 20th-century door. To the left of the entrance, there is a deepened ground floor window that was likely originally a three-light window with missing mullions, now fitted with 20th-century casements. To the right of the entrance is a tall single-light window, which probably served as a fire-window. Further right is a 20th-century entrance and window, which replaced a former three-light chamfered mullioned window that is now part of Town End Cottage.

The left-hand bay, which has a 1912 buttress, features one window per storey with 20th-century casements. The remaining upper floor windows include a former three-light chamfered mullioned window with missing mullions, now with casements, and two 20th-century windows alongside a former two-light chamfered mullioned window that also has a missing mullion, now fitted with casements. A ridge stack is located to the right of centre.

To the right of Town End Cottage is the early 20th-century extension, which is two storeys tall and slightly taller than the original 17th-century building, consisting of two bays. The cottages were originally stables for Harden House.
