Description
Crag Lea is a house located on Thorpe Main Street, dating from the 17th century but refronted in the early to mid-19th century. It is constructed from coursed squared grey gritstone and features a graduated stone slate roof. The building has two storeys and two bays, with quoins at the corners. There is a glazed door to the left of the centre, set in a plain stone surround with a moulded cornice above. The flanking windows and those on the first floor have 20th-century frames within projecting stone surrounds. A blocked doorway is located to the far right. The house has moulded kneelers, gable copings, and corniced end stacks. At the rear, there is a projecting staircase and a half bay with recessed chamfered mullion windows. Inside, the stone newel stair remains, positioned opposite the current entrance. The original 17th-century plan likely included an end lobby entry. Crag Lea is notable as one of the few houses in the village that retains features from the 17th century.
