Description
Kail Farmhouse is a house dating from the early to mid-19th century, with some remains from the 17th century. It is constructed of coursed grey gritstone rubble and has a graduated stone slate roof. The building has two storeys and three bays, with quoins at the corners. The central bay projects as a two-storey porch with an outshut roof. This porch features a 17th-century doorway on the left side, which has chamfered quoined jambs and a three-centred arch lintel. Above the doorway, there is a small chamfered window, and on the front, there is a possibly reset two-light recessed chamfered window on the first floor. The rest of the windows are from the 19th century, including a large two-light window on the ground floor of the first bay and smaller single-light windows elsewhere. There is an end stack to the left and a ridge stack at the centre of the third bay. At the rear, there is a projecting service wing to the right of centre, which has 19th-century windows. The farmhouse is included for its group value.
