Description

The Sportsman's Inn is a farmhouse that has been converted into a public house. It likely dates from the late 17th century and late 18th century, with some alterations made over time. The building is constructed of white-painted rubble with stone quoins and features a stone slate roof. It has a single-depth linear layout that runs roughly north-south, with the earlier section making up the southern third and a large rear outshut that covers part of the earlier section and all of the later addition.

The exterior consists of two storeys and features a total of six windows, arranged as two on the left and four on the right. The earlier section on the left slightly projects forward. The larger later section to the right has a square-headed doorway that is offset to the left, accessed by four rebuilt steps. This doorway has a shallow five-pane overlight above it, with a narrow eight-pane hornless sash window to its right. Flanking these openings are 16-pane hornless sash windows, and the first floor has four similar sash windows. The earlier section has a boulder plinth and features one similar sashed window offset to the left at ground floor, with two more on the first floor. There are metal sign-brackets at each end of the first floor, with the one on the right displaying a painted inn sign. The building has a ridge chimney and gable chimneys.

On the south gable wall of the earlier section, there are some through-stones, a chimney projection at ground floor, and a blocked chamfered one-light window on each floor near the front corner, both with hoodmoulds. At the rear, the earlier section has a blocked one-light window on each floor, with the ground floor window being round-headed and featuring hollow spandrels. To the left of these is a former two-light window on each floor, which is now missing its mullions.

The interior has been altered, and the building is situated in a picturesque location overlooking the River Dee.
