Description

Mill Cottage is a cottage, probably built in the early 18th century, that has been extended and altered. It is constructed of coursed mixed rubble with sandstone quoins and has a stone-coloured composition tile roof. The building has a single-depth, two-unit plan, along with a set-back extension at the left end, which was formerly a lean-to but has recently been raised.

The cottage has two low storeys and features a main range with two windows. A continuous stone-slate drip-course runs over the ground floor. The doorway is offset to the right and has a flat-arched head made of rubble voussoirs, though it is now covered by a porch. The doorway includes a pegged wooden doorcase and a studded plank door with strap hinges, protected by a shallow gabled porch with a stone slab roof. To the left of the door is a square casement window with thin glazing bars, and to the right is a rectangular window with altered glazing, both featuring flat-arched heads similar to the doorway. On the first floor, there is a rectangular 9-pane window to the left with one opening pane in the top row, and an oblong casement window to the right with a similar opening pane in the top row. A gable chimney is located to the left. The former lean-to at the left end now has an upper floor with a window. The right-hand end of the cottage adjoins the gable wall of Mill House.

Inside, there is a large ceiling beam and a panelled partition that forms a very narrow room at the right-hand end. Mill Cottage forms a group with Mill House, which is adjacent to the right, and with Millers Cottage, located to the right of that.
