Description

The ruins of Trowse Newton Hall are located on the south side of Whitlingham Lane in Trowse with Newton. This country house, originally associated with the Priors of Norwich and later the Deans after the dissolution, dates back to the mid-15th century and was demolished around 1860. The structure is built of flint and brick with ashlar dressings and currently has no roof.

The rectangular north range remains standing to the first floor level, showcasing a section of the north wall that features a distinctive coursed flint and brick chequerwork style. On the east side of the north wall, the jambs of a stone 4-centred window can still be seen, along with fragments of Perpendicular tracery. Further west, there is a 4-centred hollow and wave moulded doorway. The west return of this range includes two 4-light window embrasures, and there is a doorway on the south return. Scattered patches of masonry can be observed leading south towards the main entrance, which features a large 4-centred ashlar doorway with double chamfered jambs and a multiply wave moulded arch.
