Description
West Ashling Mill, built in 1825, is located on Funtington Mill Road. Originally used for corn milling, it was converted in 1832 to produce paper pulp from rags, a function it served until 1850. After 1850, the mill reverted to flour milling. The building is three storeys high and initially had three windows; a modern addition to the east provides three further windows. Constructed of red brick, it was once painted, and has a slate roof. The mill was originally unique, incorporating both a watermill and a windmill with a small windmill positioned on the roof. This windmill was removed before the building was first listed, and the structure now functions solely as a watermill.
