Description

Hockley Mill is a late 19th-century mill and attached barn. The building is constructed of brick with an old plain tile roof. The barn is seven bays long. Attached to the third bay from one end is a two-bay mill. On the barn’s side, ventilation slits are arranged in patterns. A double door is positioned within a segmental-headed opening in the third bay from the other end. A lean-to structure is attached to the side beyond the mill. The mill features two or three-light segmental-headed casements in each bay, with a boarded opening above the end bay, and a door above the inner bay. A stable door is located below the door, beside the barn. A mill stream runs under the end bay. The barn has a half-hipped roof. Inside the barn is a queen strut roof. The mill interior contains a complete working undershot water wheel, which is disconnected from the rest of the machinery and the millstones.
