Description
The Old Rectory is a house that was once used as a rectory. It dates back to the 16th century and was refronted and enlarged in the 18th and 19th centuries. The building has a timber-frame core with some plaster and brick infill, but it is mostly encased and extended in brick, topped with an old plain tile roof. The original 16th-century section faces the path leading to the church, while an 18th-century range has been added to most of the church side, along with additional 18th-century features on the other side.
The garden front of the house is two stories high with an attic and consists of five bays. The central bay is part of the original 16th-century building, which has an early 19th-century two-story canted bay added to the front. This bay features a top-glazed door in the center and altered nine-pane windows in the other openings, with a parapet above. Each side of the central bay has two 18th-century bays, which include 19th and 20th-century canted bays on the ground floor with flat roofs. The left canted bay is made of timber, while the first floor has two 16-pane sash windows. The roofs of these bays are hipped, and the roof of the central part has a hip with a hipped dormer. There is a large stack on the ridge of the central range with multiple flues, and a smaller stack on the left roof. The other end of the house displays exposed timber-frame construction.
