Description
Mildmay House is a house dating from around 1700, with later expansions in the 19th century. It features an old plain tile roof and is a five-bay double pile structure with an additional range added to the rear in the 19th century. The central entrance has a six-panel door framed by a lugged architrave and topped with a later crude shell hood supported by plain console brackets. On either side of the door are tall, thin four-pane sash windows, while the other bays contain 18th-century twelve-pane flush-framed sashes. A moulded brick string course runs along the first floor, where there are five twelve-pane flush-framed sashes, with the central sash set in a rubbed brick architrave and featuring a moulded sill. All the windows have rendered rubbed brick arches above them. The house has coved plaster eaves beneath a hipped roof, which includes three two-light flat-roofed dormers. There are large chimney stacks located behind the ridge and on the return ridges. The interior features elements from the 18th and 19th centuries, including doors, fireplaces, and a staircase from the 18th century.
