Description

Chapel Cottage is a 16th-century timber-framed open hall house, with alterations and additions dating to the early 17th century, late 17th century, early 19th century, and 20th century. The walls are red brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with blue headers. The front elevation includes a high plinth and a first-floor band. The roof is thatched and hipped, with a low eaves level at the north end, and a catslide slope at the rear. The east front is two storeys high with three windows; the north side projects. The windows are casements. A plain doorway is topped by a simple canopy supported on carved brackets. Inside, the timber frame and beams are exposed. A large, one-sided fireplace reveals the building's construction phases; the walls are constructed of malmstone with brick facing.
