Description
The Parish Church of St John the Baptist is a Grade I listed building located on Findon Road. It features a chancel, a north chapel, a south transept, and twin naves under a single roof, along with a north porch and a west tower topped with a broached shingled spire. The church is constructed from flints. The nave arcade displays Transitional Norman architecture, while the walls of the nave and the rest of the church date back to the 13th century. The nave's roof was rebuilt as a single span with crown-posts, likely in the 15th century. Although the entire structure was restored by Sir Gilbert Scott in 1867, it retains its medieval character and charm. Notably, it is quite large for a village situated in the downland. There is also a 13th-century screen separating the north chancel from the nave.
