Description
Alfriston Post Office, also known as Phillips' Stores, along with the attached house, dates from the 18th century. This two-storey building features four windows and is constructed of painted brick, with the southernmost window-bay finished in stucco. It has a parapet and a tiled roof, with intact glazing bars. In the southeast corner, there is an 18th-century shop front that includes two curved windows with glazing bars, flanked by pilasters and a doorway with fan ornamentation in the tympanum. The center of the remaining front has a round-headed doorway with a semi-circular fanlight and a six-panel door. The shop front is of particular note and is designated as Grade II*.
