Description

The White Horse Cottage, East and West, comprises two houses. Originally a public house, the White Horse Inn, it later became four, then three cottages, and is now two houses. The building likely dates to the 17th century or earlier, with timber framing and plaster infilling visible at the front. The rear of the building has been refaced with stone rubble. An 18th-century addition, originally a bay window, is present on the east end, now faced in stone and painted. The building has two storeys and five windows. The roof is tiled and hipped. There are casement windows with small square panes, and a first-floor oriel window supported by three brackets. A doorway has a flat hood over and a six-panel door. A stone and brick chimney breast is located on the west wall. At the rear, a small gabled projection contains windows with three and four lights featuring stone mullions. A later addition is present at the west end of the rear elevation. The building was originally part of the Leconfield Estate and was formerly listed as numbers 118, 119 and 121.
