Description

Basing Home Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from 1865, built for William Nicholson of Basing Park. It is constructed of flint with red brick dressings, with some areas tile-hung, and has a clay tile roof with gabled and hipped ends. The building is arranged in an L-shape, featuring a cross-wing, a stair tower in the angle, and an outshut. It is designed in a Gothic style. The east front is asymmetrical, with a gabled cross-wing to the right, a pointed arch doorway, and three-light casement windows. The first floor has a large pointed arch tympanum above the windows. A gabled stair tower in the angle features a tall pointed arch window, and an outshut occupies the corner to the left. There are small half-hipped gables on the sides and rear, and a gabled cross-wing at the rear incorporates a canted bay window and a pointed arch window with a tile-hung tympanum. The interior has not been inspected.
