Description
Hollycombe is a large mansion situated on Linschlip Lode Road. A house on this site was originally designed by John Nash and constructed in 1801. This earlier structure was incorporated into a later building, the exterior of which largely dates from 1892. The architectural style is Tudoresque, prominently featuring a castellated tower. The building is constructed from coursed stone with ashlar quoins. Windows are casement style, featuring stone mullions and transoms.
The entrance front has six windows and a central projection with a gable that resembles a pediment, topped with three finials. A loggia featuring three round-headed arches supported by Tuscan columns is located on the ground floor, with three windows above. A mounting-block is situated to the west of the loggia, and the flanking portions are defined by parapets. To the east is a castellated three-storey square tower, with an octagonal projection of the staircase located in the northeast corner.
The garden front displays eight windows and a parapet. There are two projections; the western one is five-sided, while the eastern one is gabled and contains a two-storey bay. A central veranda, comprised of three bays and supported by Tuscan columns, is present, with a balustrade above. On the west front, a 20th-century long ground floor conservatory extends across nineteen lights, arranged over two tiers and topped with a balustrade.
