Description
The Linch War Memorial is a stone memorial cross featuring an octagonal shaft and base, which stands on an octagonal plinth with four steps. The lower part of the shaft is wider and has steeply pitched gables on each face. On the east side, beneath one of the gables, there is a niche that holds a small bronze statue of St George, created by the artist Philip Jackson and installed in 2000; the original sculpture's fate is unknown.
Carved into the stone beneath the sculpture is the inscription:
"TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN MEMORY OF THOSE WHO/ LEAVING THIS PARISH DURING THE GREAT WAR DIED FOR/ THEIR COUNTRY/ WE OF LYNCH DEDICATE THIS CROSS."
The names of ten fallen soldiers are listed on either side, with a single name commemorating a soldier who fell during the Second World War.
