Description
The Fire Engine House, along with the adjoining Garden Temple, is an outhouse and late fire engine house dating from the 18th century. The oldest part of the building, which faces east, is constructed of sandstone rubble with red brick dressings and quoins, topped with a hipped tiled roof. It features a round-headed doorway with a semi-circular fanlight. To the west, an ornamental front was added in the early 19th century to transform it into a garden house and to conceal the utilitarian aspects of the original structure. This addition is stuccoed, has a slate roof, and includes a portico supported by four Doric columns, topped with a pediment.
