Description
Number 45, Park Lane is a house dating from 1647, as indicated by the datestone above the front door. The house was refenestrated in the 19th century while retaining its original window openings. It is constructed of knapped flint with red brick dressings and features a hipped old tiled roof with a central 17th-century brick chimneystack. The building is two storeys high and has three windows, with a lobby entrance. The 19th-century triple casement windows are present, except for the central window, which has a single light. The central door is framed by a cambered-headed brick doorcase and features a plank door. There is a plinth and triangular brick buttresses on both the left and right sides. The ground floor windows are adorned with brick hood moulding, and there is an outshot at the rear.
Inside, the right side ground floor room has a 3-inch chamfered spine beam with run-out stops, a wooden bressumer above the fireplace, and an adjoining cupboard that retains one of the original wooden ladder steps. The left side ground floor room, which was formerly the parlour, features a curved brick fireplace and retains a proving oven, although the bread oven has been removed. This room also has a similar chamfered spine beam with chamfered floor joists. The house has winder stairs leading to the first floor, which includes jowled posts, an angled queen post roof, and one room with a wall of likely original close-boarding. The doors throughout the house are 18th or 19th-century plank doors.
