Description
The stable block to Tissington Hall dates from the early 17th century and 18th century. It is constructed of rubble limestone with sandstone dressings and features a stone slate roof with stone coped gables. The building has a stone gable end stack and a bellcote with open sides. It is two storeys high and includes a gabled cross-wing at the south end.
On the west elevation, the ground floor has four blocked doorways with stone surrounds, segmental arched heads, and horizontal dripmoulds. Above, there are four 3-light recessed chamfer mullion windows. The east elevation features two doorways with moulded stone surrounds and four occuli windows, also with moulded stone surrounds and keystones. The arrangement of windows and doors follows a rhythm of ABAABA, and there is a large round-arched carriage arch with a stone surround, projecting imposts, and a keystone. Above this arch, five 4-light recessed chamfer mullion windows are present, with the centre pair located beneath a pedimented gable that includes a clock in a moulded stone surround.
