Description

The Bungalow is a cottage built around 1830-1840, likely designed by Paxton and Robertson. It features coursed squared sandstone with a stone slate roof and stone stacks, along with timber bargeboards and moulded finials. This single-storey building has a north elevation with two gabled bays, where the angles are cut away and supported by square ashlar piers. The right bay has an angled wall with a wooden cross window in a plain ashlar surround, while the left bay has an open porch with a square plan and a panelled door beneath a plain lintel. Between the two bays, there is a pair of wooden cross windows with margin light glazing, also in plain ashlar surrounds. Similar windows are present in the gable ends. The Bungalow was constructed as part of the picturesque model village created by Paxton for the Sixth Duke of Devonshire.
