Description
1 and 2 Daisy Bank, along with the attached wall and outhouse, are a pair of houses built around 1830-1840, likely designed by Paxton and Robertson, and feature elements from earlier structures. They are in the Italianate style, constructed from coursed squared sandstone and ashlar. The roof is hipped and gabled, covered with plain tiles and has overhanging eaves supported by timber brackets. There are four ashlar ridge stacks and one lateral stack.
The buildings are two storeys high with a north elevation that has five irregular bays. The centre features a pair of projecting entrance bays, with the right bay being taller and gabled, adorned with decorative bargeboards and a wooden finial. The left bay has a shallow pitched roof. There are two sets of triplet round-arched windows, with the gabled bay having a smaller single light above. To the right, there are two two-light casements with glazing bars that form round-arched lights, all with plain ashlar surrounds and bracketed hoodmoulds. The left side mirrors this with two similar windows. Above, there are four similar windows and a single light in the centre.
Attached to the north side is a retaining wall featuring seven piers topped with pyramid caps, along with an outhouse that has a square plan and a pyramid roof. These buildings were part of the picturesque model village created by Paxton for the Sixth Duke of Devonshire.
