Description
Shepherds Cottage is a house built around 1830-1840, likely designed by Paxton and Robertson. It features rendered stone and ashlar construction with a plain tile roof and stone gable stacks. The gable ends overhang and are adorned with decorative bargeboards. The building has a plain band at the ground floor and eaves. It stands two storeys tall with a north elevation that has three bays. The off-centre doorway is framed by a moulded ashlar doorcase and has a panelled door. To the right of the door is a square window with a similar moulded ashlar surround and a square section flush mullion, and there is a similar window to the left. Above, there are three more windows that match those below. This cottage was constructed as part of the picturesque model village created by Paxton for the Sixth Duke of Devonshire.
