Description
The barn located 10 meters east of Thornleigh Hall is a structure that serves as both a byre and a hay loft, dating back to 1660, with alterations and additions made in the mid-19th century and 20th century. It is constructed from coursed and dressed rubble and features a stone slate roof. The building has a two-level plan, with the hay loft situated above the byre.
On the ground floor, there are four top-hung casement windows, with the two central windows set in 17th-century Tudor arches that were originally door openings. To the left of these windows, there are similar arched heads with boarded doors, one of which is inscribed "G.C. 1660." To the right of the left-hand window, there is a further 20th-century door beneath a 20th-century lean-to addition. The upper floor has two hayloft doors, one of which on the left is formed from a three-light chamfer-mullion window.
