Description

A group of eight statues, two vases, and a bronze sculpture is located on the south lawn of Chatsworth House, dating from around the 1820s. At the end of the vista stands a bronze sculpture of Endymion, created by Chantrey and based on the original by Canova, which is set on an ashlar plinth. The statues and vases were carved by Francesco Bienaime in Carrara for the Sixth Duke of Devonshire. They are placed on ashlar pedestals with moulded bases and caps, and are topped with sculptures or vases made of Carrara marble, inspired by ancient designs. The Gardens and Park are recognized on the Gardens Register at Grade I.
