Description
The Flight of Steps with Urns and Statues, located east of the Orangery in Chatsworth Gardens, is a Grade II listed structure from the early 19th century. It was part of the Sixth Duke of Devonshire's remodelling of the gardens. The steps are made of sandstone ashlar and Carrara marble, featuring a straight flight flanked by stepped parapet walls. At the base of the steps, there are two statues of sitting dogs, inspired by the 2nd century Dog of Alcibiades. At the top, two urns made of Carrara marble with relief carvings are positioned, along with a larger, more ornate urn on a carved pedestal, also in Carrara marble. The Gardens and Park are recognized on the Gardens Register at Grade I.
