Description
The gateway and boundary wall to St John the Baptist's Church were built between 1856 and 1860 by architect William Butterfield. Constructed from coursed squared gritstone and gritstone ashlar, the walls create the western boundary of the graveyard along the main road and are designed to step downhill. The coping stones are chamfered, and the gateway features a chamfered arch with an octafoil above it, topped with a stepped gable.
