Description
PARISH OF EDENSOR THE GREEN SK 24/2569-24/2570 7/117 (South Side) Ornamental Fountain, Attached Wall and Railings GV II Ornamental fountain, water basin and attached walls and railings. 1840 by John Robertson. Norman style. Coursed squared sandstone and ashlar. Built into a bank as a retaining wall. North elevation has central projecting block with pseudo machicolation and moulded parapet. Blind round arch, like a Norman doorway, of three stepped orders. Chamfered impost band. The arch has zigzag to the inner order and moulded corbels on the outer order. Chamfered hoodmould. Within the arch the spout of the fountain has the relief of a wild man. Moulded semi-circular water basin. Wall to the right with parapet and corbelled-out square turret with pyramid cap. To the left a square tower-like bay with two blind Caernarvon arched windows. Above the central feature a square turret with blind Caernarvon-arched windows flanked by paired pilaster strips. Pyramid roof. Coped walls to either side and to north low walls surmounted by railings with square angle piers with pyramid caps enclosing a garden.
