Description

The Giallo Sarcophagus, located approximately 60 metres north of the Duke's Greenhouse in Chatsworth Gardens, is an antique sarcophagus that is part of the Sixth Duke of Devonshire's collection of antique sculpture. It was brought to Chatsworth in the early 19th century and was likely originally placed in the Sculpture Gallery. The sarcophagus is made of marble and features sides that are carved in deep relief with swags. It has a gabled top with antefixae at the corners. The Gardens and Park are listed on the Gardens Register at Grade I.
