Description
Rowlee Farmhouse is a two-storey farmhouse built in 1849. It is constructed of coursed squared gritstone with gritstone dressings, featuring a chamfered plinth and angle quoins. The slate roofs have stone coped gables with kneelers, and there are stone gable end stacks, including a pair of tall polygonal chimneys on the west gable. The south elevation is double fronted, with a central bay that is advanced and gabled, displaying a shield dated 1849. There is a recessed central porch with a Tudor arch and chamfered surround, along with a returned label. On either side of the porch are glazing bar sash windows with returned labels, projecting sills, and pseudo brackets. Three similar windows are located above. To the south, there is a low curved boundary wall with iron railings and gate piers. This farmhouse, like many others in the valley, was built by the Dukes of Devonshire.
